In 2021 users around the world spent a total of $ 170 billion for mobile applications, an increase of 19% over the previous year. The number of downloads of such programs and games increased by 5%, to a record 230 billion, according to the analytical company App Annie, which included in its calculations performance of App Store, Google Play and Chinese application stores.
The leader in spending on mobile applications is China, whose residents in 2021 spent $ 56.8 billion against $ 48.5 billion a year earlier. The U.S. ($43 billion) and Japan ($20.7 billion) follow.
About 2 million new apps and games for mobile devices were released in 2021, bringing the total number in the App Store and Google Play catalogs to more than 21 million. Some of these products have already been removed from the app catalogs – 1.8 million apps are now available in the App Store compared to 3.6 million titles in Google Play. Google Play accounted for 77% of new releases in 2021.
Leaders in the amount of time spent in mobile applications were Brazil, Indonesia and South Korea, whose residents spend in applications on average more than 5 hours a day.
It is also reported that in 2021, advertising spending on mobile apps and games worldwide reached $295 billion versus $240 billion. The volume of this market will grow at about 22.6% per year, and in 2022 it will reach $350 billion.
